Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a two-day official visit and high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, taking place on May 19 and 20. The visit comes only days after former U.S. President Donald Trump made a separate international diplomatic visit, drawing increased global attention to major geopolitical developments.

Russia and China continue to maintain close political and economic relations, with both countries previously describing their partnership as having “no limits.” Cooperation between Moscow and Beijing has expanded in recent years across trade, energy, military coordination, and international diplomacy.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional security, economic agreements, and ongoing international tensions, including the war in Ukraine and relations with Western countries.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that he hopes President Xi Jinping will use China’s influence to encourage Vladimir Putin to move toward ending the war in Ukraine through diplomatic means.

The meeting between the Russian and Chinese leaders is being closely watched by the international community, as both nations continue to play major roles in shaping global political and economic dynamics.
