US Announces 45-Day Extension of Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire Amid Continued Tensions

The United States has announced that Israeli and Lebanese delegations have agreed to extend the current ceasefire for an additional 45 days, in an effort to prevent further escalation along the border between Israel and southern Lebanon.

Washington, which has been mediating negotiations between the two sides, said the extension aims to maintain relative calm after months of cross-border clashes. Although the truce has significantly reduced the intensity of fighting, violations have continued to occur, particularly in southern Lebanon.

The announcement came as Israeli military strikes were reported near the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, highlighting the fragile nature of the ceasefire agreement and ongoing security concerns in the region.

Meanwhile, Palestinians marked the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, or “catastrophe,” a term used to describe the mass displacement of Palestinians during the 1948 war that accompanied the establishment of Israel. Commemorations and events were held in Palestinian territories and refugee communities across the region.
