Countries Rush to Evacuate Citizens as Virus-Hit Cruise Ship Anchors Off Tenerife
The virus-hit cruise vessel MV Hondius arrived off the Spanish port of Granadilla, Tenerife after concerns over a hantavirus outbreak onboard.
The ship remained anchored in the harbor and did not dock at the port. Authorities confirmed that none of the remaining passengers or crew members had shown symptoms of infection, although all individuals onboard are expected to undergo medical testing as a precaution.
Several countries, including Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom, along with other European nations, have dispatched aircraft to evacuate their citizens from the vessel.
Meanwhile, the head of the World Health Organization stated that the risk posed by the hantavirus outbreak “remains low,” while health officials continue monitoring the situation closely.
