US Pauses Strait of Hormuz Escort Mission Amid Iran Deal Push as Regional Tensions Shift

The United States has announced a pause in its naval efforts to escort commercial ships through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, signaling a potential shift toward diplomacy in its approach to Iran. According to Donald Trump, the decision comes amid renewed efforts to secure a deal with Tehran, raising hopes for de-escalation in a region long marked by volatility.

US officials clarified that while offensive operations have ceased, American forces will continue to operate in a defensive capacity to enforce a naval presence and ensure maritime security. Marco Rubio emphasized that “offensive operations against Iran are over,” reinforcing the administration’s pivot toward containment rather than confrontation.

Meanwhile, diplomatic activity has intensified. Iran’s foreign minister held talks with his Chinese counterpart in Beijing, underlining China’s growing role in mediating regional tensions and supporting negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Tehran has also strongly rejected accusations that it was behind a recent attack on the United Arab Emirates, with officials stating that Iran “categorically denies” any involvement in the incident.

The developments come as economic consequences of the conflict continue to unfold. In the United States, gasoline prices have surged by approximately 50% since the start of the war, adding pressure on consumers and fueling concerns about the broader global economic impact.
