US Warns of ‘Devastating’ Response to Threats in Strait of Hormuz as Ceasefire Holds
The United States has reiterated its commitment to protecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any Iranian attacks on vessels will be met with a “devastating” response.
Despite heightened tensions, U.S. officials emphasized that the ceasefire with Iran remains in place and has not collapsed. However, they cautioned that continued threats to maritime security could trigger a strong military reaction.
The warning follows statements from Iran’s lead negotiator, who indicated that Tehran is prepared for a prolonged standoff in the vital shipping corridor, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.
International concern intensified after a reported Iranian strike on the Fujairah oil hub in the United Arab Emirates on Monday. The incident drew widespread criticism from global leaders, who condemned the attack and called for restraint.
