Kurdistan Region President Holds Series of High-Level Meetings in Baghdad
During his official visit to Baghdad, Nechirvan Barzani held a series of high-level meetings with Iraqi political leaders, focusing on the country’s political process, government formation, and the importance of national stability.
In a key meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, discussions centered on the current political process and the necessary steps toward forming a new federal government. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining a governance model based on partnership among Iraq’s communities. The Kurdistan Region President praised Al-Sudani’s efforts and stressed the need to build on agreements between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve outstanding issues. They also highlighted the importance of protecting Iraq from regional tensions and safeguarding its sovereignty.
President Barzani also met with Prime Minister-designate Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, congratulating him on his designation and expressing the Kurdistan Region’s support for the formation of a successful cabinet. Both sides underlined the urgency of forming an effective and inclusive government capable of addressing citizens’ needs and strengthening national unity. They reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation, ensuring constitutional rights, and enhancing political and security stability.
As part of his engagements, the President held talks with Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the National Wisdom Movement. Discussions focused on Iraq’s political landscape and the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding among political forces. Both sides agreed that the next government should prioritize service delivery and citizens’ welfare, while also protecting Iraq from regional conflicts. Al-Hakim commended President Barzani’s balanced national role in fostering unity.
President Barzani also met with leaders of the National Political Council, where talks emphasized the need for unified efforts to strengthen stability and ensure genuine partnership among Iraq’s components. The leaders praised his role in bridging political divides and defending constitutional rights. Discussions also covered regional developments and the importance of keeping Iraq away from tensions.
In another meeting, President Barzani held talks with Parliament Speaker Haibat Al-Halbousi. The two sides discussed the legislative framework and its role in maintaining stability, stressing coordination between Erbil and Baghdad and the importance of enacting key national legislation while safeguarding the rights of all communities.
Additionally, President Barzani met with Muthana Al-Samarayi, head of the Al-Azem Alliance. Their discussions focused on adherence to constitutional timelines in forming the new government and enhancing cooperation between political parties. Both sides highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s constructive role in Baghdad and the importance of balanced relations to ensure national stability.
Across all meetings, a shared emphasis emerged on accelerating government formation, strengthening coordination between Erbil and Baghdad, and preserving Iraq’s stability and sovereignty amid ongoing regional challenges.
