U.S. Navy Blocks 42 Vessels in Iran Maritime Operation, CENTCOM Commander Says
The United States has achieved what officials describe as a significant milestone in its ongoing naval blockade of Iran, with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirming the interception of dozens of vessels attempting to access Iranian ports.
In a statement, CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said U.S. forces successfully redirected the 42nd commercial vessel attempting to breach the blockade, underscoring the operation’s scale and enforcement capability. According to Cooper, the effort reflects the “outstanding work” of American military personnel in restricting maritime commerce linked to Iran.
The commander added that 41 oil tankers carrying an estimated 69 million barrels of oil are currently unable to reach markets, representing more than $6 billion in blocked revenue for Iran.
Cooper emphasized that the blockade is having a substantial economic impact, stating that Iranian leadership is unable to benefit financially from the stranded oil shipments. He also reaffirmed that U.S. forces remain fully committed to maintaining and enforcing the blockade.
The operation is part of a broader U.S. strategy aimed at limiting Iran’s economic and logistical capabilities amid ongoing regional tensions. Previous CENTCOM statements have indicated that the blockade has effectively halted most maritime trade to and from Iranian ports since its implementation.
