Tensions Escalate in Strait of Hormuz as US-Iran Standoff Deepens

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to rise amid heightened military and diplomatic confrontations between the United States and Iran, with both sides exchanging accusations over maritime security and economic restrictions.

US President Donald Trump has intensified pressure on Tehran, reportedly ordering the Navy to “shoot and kill” mine-laying boats operating in the strategic waterway. In a separate development, the US also announced the seizure of another vessel allegedly involved in smuggling Iranian oil, further tightening enforcement measures in the region.

Iran, meanwhile, has stated that it has received its first payment from a toll imposed on passage through the Strait of Hormuz, signaling its continued assertion of control over the vital shipping route.

Senior Iranian officials have also hardened their stance on diplomacy. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said that any full ceasefire would only be possible if Washington lifts its blockade on Iranian ports. Iranian authorities further indicated that no diplomatic delegation would be sent to Pakistan until the blockade is removed.
