President Barzani Welcomes U.S.–Iran Ceasefire, Calls for Lasting Peace in the Region
Kurdish leader president Barzani has expressed hope that the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran will pave the way for lasting peace and stability across the Middle East. In a message posted on X, Barzani said he hopes the halt in hostilities will evolve into a durable peace that ensures security and prosperity for the region.
“We hope that this fire between America and Iran turns into lasting peace, brings security and prosperity to our region, and becomes a starting point for ending all the conflicts that exist in our region,” Barzani wrote.
He emphasized that peace remains the best path forward, adding that “peace is always better than war.” His remarks come as global leaders react cautiously to the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which was reached amid rising tensions and concerns about a broader regional conflict.
The agreement, announced this week, temporarily halted escalating military threats and reopened the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. Many international actors have welcomed the development and called for diplomacy to transform the truce into a permanent peace settlement.
