Erdoğan Phones Kurdistan Region President to Condole Fallen Peshmerga and Discuss Regional Stability
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a phone call on Sunday from Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Türkiye, during which the two leaders discussed recent security developments in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and broader regional tensions.
During the call, President Erdoğan extended his condolences to the Kurdistan Region President and the families of the Peshmerga who were killed or wounded in the recent attacks on the Kurdistan Region. He also strongly condemned the recent drone strike that targeted the residence of the Kurdistan Region President in Duhok.
Erdoğan reaffirmed that Türkiye places great importance on maintaining peace and stability in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, stressing that Ankara will continue supporting efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability in the area.
For his part, the Kurdistan Region President thanked President Erdoğan for his call and for Türkiye’s supportive and friendly stance toward the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region remains committed to peace and will not be a party to wars or conflicts.
The two leaders also discussed the latest developments related to ongoing regional conflicts and their wider global repercussions. Both sides highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts and political dialogue to stop the fighting and achieve a peaceful resolution to the disputes.
