International Leaders Condemn Drone Attack on Kurdistan Region President’s Residence

A number of regional and international leaders have expressed strong condemnation of the recent drone attack targeting the residence of the Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, in Duhok, while reaffirming their support for the security and stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

On Saturday evening, the Kurdistan Region President received a phone call from Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. During the call, Sheikh Mohammed strongly condemned the drone attack and reiterated the UAE’s firm support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in maintaining security and stability. The Kurdistan Region President expressed his gratitude for the call and for the UAE’s continued backing. Both leaders also discussed the wider regional situation, including developments related to the ongoing war and the urgent need to intensify efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability.

The Kurdistan Region President also received a phone call from Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League. During the conversation, Mr. Aboul Gheit strongly condemned the drone strike and reaffirmed the Arab League’s commitment to supporting security and stability in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The Kurdistan Region President thanked him for the call and acknowledged the organization’s continued support. The two sides also discussed recent developments in the ongoing conflict and their potential repercussions.

In a separate message, Abdullah II of Jordan, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, sent a letter expressing condolences and sympathy to the Kurdistan Region President as well as to the families of the victims of the drone attack in Soran on March 24. The King wished a speedy recovery to those injured and strongly condemned the drone attack on the Kurdistan Region President’s residence in Duhok, reaffirming Jordan’s support for the Kurdistan Region and for maintaining Iraq’s security and stability.

Meanwhile, the Kurdistan Region President also received a phone call from Yvette Cooper, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. During the conversation, she strongly condemned the drone strike and conveyed her sympathies to the Kurdistan Region President and to the families of the Peshmerga members who were martyred or injured in the recent attacks on the Kurdistan Region. She emphasized the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and reaffirmed Britain’s willingness to continue cooperation and assistance.

In response, the Kurdistan Region President expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom’s support and reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has not been part of the ongoing conflict and will not be drawn into it. The discussion also touched on the political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the broader implications of the war. Both sides stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.
