Iraq Warns Escalating Military Operations Threaten Regional and Global Stability
Iraq has warned that escalating military operations in the region pose an immediate threat to both regional and global stability, urging the international community to take urgent action to protect civilians, especially children.
Speaking during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Iraq’s representative described the intensifying conflict as a “flagrant violation of international law.” He cautioned that continued escalation not only threatens civilian lives but also risks undermining economic stability across the region.
The Iraqi representative strongly condemned attacks on children and educational institutions, stressing that such acts constitute serious breaches of international humanitarian and human rights law.
“Targeting schools is a direct threat to the future and stability of communities,” he said, emphasizing that protecting children during armed conflicts must remain a shared responsibility of the global community.
He further called on all parties involved in the conflict to respect international law and ensure the protection of children’s rights and dignity, particularly in areas affected by violence.
The statement also warned that continued escalation could deepen existing humanitarian crises and further destabilize the region.
Iraq concluded its remarks by urging the international community to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic solutions, describing negotiations as the most effective path toward de-escalation and lasting peace.
