EU Expresses Solidarity with Kurdistan Region After Missile Strike on Soran
Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, received a joint message of condolence and solidarity from the European Union Liaison Office and the Consulates General of EU member states in the Kurdistan Region on Thursday, following the recent missile attack in Soran.
In the message, European representatives expressed their profound condolences over the missile strike that targeted the Soran District in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The attack resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several members of the Peshmerga.
The EU Liaison Office and the Consulates General extended their deepest sympathies to President Nechirvan Barzani and to the families of the six fallen Peshmerga members. They also wished a swift recovery to those who were injured in the attack.
The message was also addressed to Masrour Barzani and Qubad Talabani.
In their statement, the European representatives expressed grave concern about the repeated attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region in recent weeks. They reaffirmed their solidarity — as well as that of their respective countries — with the Kurdistan Region.
The message also highlighted the European Union’s commitment to supporting peace, stability, and security in the region, particularly during a period marked by increasing tensions and security challenges.
EU representatives stressed that maintaining stability in the Kurdistan Region remains essential for broader regional peace and cooperation.
