United Arab Emirates Condemns Iran’s Missile Strikes on Peshmerga Positions
The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned a missile attack by Iran that struck two military sites in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, killing and injuring dozens of Peshmerga fighters, in what the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs described as an “unprovoked terrorist attack.”
In an official statement, the ministry said the strikes represent a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law, warning that such actions undermine regional security and stability. The UAE reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Republic of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), expressing support for all measures to protect civilians and maintain security.
The statement extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished a swift recovery to the injured, while reiterating support for Iraq’s sovereignty.
According to Kurdish authorities, the attack occurred early Tuesday when missiles hit positions linked to infantry units of the Peshmerga forces, causing significant casualties and damage.
The strikes come amid heightened regional tensions and a series of cross‑border attacks that have alarmed Iraqi leaders. The Iraqi Presidency also condemned the missile strike, calling for respect for Iraqi sovereignty and urging diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
Earlier reports indicate at least six Peshmerga fighters were killed and dozens wounded in the strikes, which have drawn widespread regional criticism and concern.
The UAE’s denunciation adds to a chorus of international reactions urging restraint as violence in and around the Kurdistan Region continues.
