Nechirvan Barzani Condemns Iranian Missile Attack on Peshmerga Headquarters in Soran
The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, has strongly condemned a missile attack carried out by Iran that targeted a headquarters of the Peshmerga Forces in the town of Soran on Wednesday morning.
According to the statement issued by the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, the strike resulted in the death of several Peshmerga fighters and left others wounded. President Barzani expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.
In his statement, Barzani emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has consistently acted as a force for peace and stability in the region. He reiterated that the regional government maintains a policy of non-involvement in conflicts and poses no threat to neighboring countries.
The president described the missile strike as a direct act of hostility and aggression against the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, stating that such actions have no justification and contradict the principles of good neighborly relations.
Barzani also called on the Government of Iraq and the international community to take stronger measures to prevent similar violations in the future and to ensure the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The incident has raised concerns about escalating tensions in northern Iraq and the security of the Kurdistan Region, which officials say has long sought to maintain stability despite ongoing regional conflicts.
