Nechirvan Barzani and Tom Berendsen Discuss Regional Tensions and Strengthening Kurdistan Region–Netherlands Relations
Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, received a phone call from Tom Berendsen, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, during which the two officials discussed regional developments and bilateral relations.
During the conversation, President Barzani congratulated Berendsen on assuming his new position and wished him success in his duties. He also expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation that the Netherlands has provided to the Kurdistan Region over the years.
Both sides exchanged views on the latest developments related to ongoing conflicts in the region and the broader international situation. They highlighted the serious consequences of the war on peace, stability, and economic conditions both regionally and globally. In this regard, they stressed the importance of taking all necessary measures to halt the war and pursue peaceful solutions to existing disputes.
Minister Berendsen voiced the concerns of the Netherlands and the European Union over the risk of further escalation and its potential repercussions. He reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The call also addressed the impact of regional conflicts on the Kurdistan Region, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and the importance of keeping Iraq and the Kurdistan Region away from ongoing regional tensions. Both sides emphasized the significance of strengthening bilateral relations and continuing cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the Netherlands.
