Iraq Warns of Regional Energy Attacks as “Concerning Escalation”
Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday issued a warning over recent attacks targeting energy facilities across the region, describing them as a “concerning escalation” that could undermine ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and stabilize global energy markets.
In an official statement, the ministry expressed concern that incidents involving energy infrastructure in neighboring and regional countries could have far-reaching consequences for both regional stability and global energy security. It cautioned that such developments risk derailing diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation.
“The recent targeting of energy facilities… constitutes a worrying escalation that could harm efforts to reduce tensions and undermine stability,” the statement said.
The ministry called for coordinated international action to contain the situation, urging intensified diplomatic engagement to prevent further deterioration. It stressed the importance of maintaining a steady flow of energy supplies to global markets, warning that any disruption could negatively affect both producing and consuming nations.
Officials highlighted that continued escalation would serve no party’s interests, cautioning that it could deepen existing crises and widen regional tensions. The ministry urged all sides to prioritize dialogue and peaceful solutions.
“Peaceful solutions remain the optimal option for resolving disputes in a way that achieves security and stability for all,” the statement added.
The ministry also called for the activation of international and regional mechanisms to address shared challenges, emphasizing that collective action and de-escalation efforts are essential to preserving stability and protecting mutual interests.
