President Masoud Barzani Calls for Dialogue Between Baghdad and Erbil Amid Regional Tensions
Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and former President of the Kurdistan Region, on Monday called on the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government to engage in dialogue and resolve ongoing disputes amid growing regional instability.
In a statement issued on March 16, Barzani warned that the current regional situation is marked by war and significant instability, which could expose Iraq to further crises. He noted that political differences among parties have intensified the challenges facing the country.
Barzani urged both Baghdad and Erbil to come together and address their outstanding issues through constructive dialogue and mutual understanding. According to the statement, resolving these disputes is essential to maintaining stability and preventing further political and economic complications.
He also cautioned that the continuation of disagreements could create opportunities for external or opportunistic actors to exploit the situation, potentially deepening existing crises and conflicts.
Barzani stressed that cooperation between the federal authorities and the Kurdistan Regional Government is crucial at this sensitive time to safeguard the interests of the country and avoid further instability.
