Peshmerga Ministry Denies Involvement in Reported Attack on PMF Headquarters
The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has strongly denied media reports alleging that Peshmerga forces were involved in an attack on a headquarters belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, in Saladin Governorate.
In a statement released on 14 March 2026, the ministry described the circulating claims as false and baseless, emphasizing that Peshmerga forces had no role in any military operation targeting the PMF or any other party in the region.
According to the statement, several media outlets and online pages had reported that Peshmerga units were involved in an attack on a PMF headquarters within the borders of Saladin. The ministry categorically rejected these allegations and stressed that the Peshmerga are not part of the current military tensions or conflicts taking place in the area.
“The Peshmerga forces are not involved in the military tensions and conflicts occurring in the region and have not participated in any military operation against any party,” the ministry said.
The ministry reiterated that the primary mission of the Peshmerga is to maintain security and stability. It also affirmed the KRG’s continued commitment to coordination and joint work with Iraqi security forces to preserve stability across disputed and neighboring areas.
Officials called on media organizations and social media users to verify information from official sources before publishing reports that could escalate tensions or spread misinformation.
