On the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the March 11 Autonomy Agreement, Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani issued a message emphasizing the historic importance of the agreement and the sacrifices that led to its achievement.

In his statement, Barzani said the March 11 Agreement was the direct outcome of the Kurdish people’s struggle during the September Revolution, led by the late Kurdish leader Mustafa Barzani. He described the agreement as the fruit of the resistance and sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces and all segments of Kurdistan society.

Barzani stressed that the Kurdish uprising was launched to restore the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people and to establish democracy in Iraq. The persistence of that struggle, he said, eventually forced the Iraqi government at the time to officially recognize part of the Kurdish people’s rights.

Marking the 56th anniversary of the historic agreement, Barzani expressed deep appreciation for the Peshmerga fighters, revolutionaries, and national figures who participated in the September Revolution. He noted that their determination and sacrifices secured a historic achievement for the Kurdish people.

Barzani also reaffirmed the importance of protecting the gains achieved through decades of struggle. He emphasized that the people of Kurdistan continue to carry a message of peace and coexistence while honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives.

The Kurdish leader concluded his message by sending tributes to the martyrs of the September Revolution and all martyrs of Kurdistan.
