Barzani Urges Political Unity and Dialogue in Meeting with Kurdistan Islamic Union Leader

Masoud Barzani met on Tuesday with Salahaddin Bahaaddin to discuss regional developments, security concerns, and the internal political situation in the Kurdistan Region.

During the meeting, Bahaaddin emphasized that despite political differences among parties, the current circumstances require continuous dialogue and coordination between political forces, particularly on sensitive national issues. He expressed appreciation for Barzani’s role and continued efforts to protect Kurdish people in Rojava and praised his influence in supporting the peace process in Turkey.

Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region is not part of the ongoing regional war and continues to advocate for dialogue and peaceful solutions to conflicts. He stressed that maintaining stability and security in the Kurdistan Region remains the top priority.

“The Kurdistan Region is ready to play any peaceful role requested to help resolve conflicts and safeguard regional stability,” Barzani said during the meeting.

He also expressed concern about attacks carried out by certain armed groups against the Kurdistan Region amid the broader regional tensions. Barzani noted that the issue has been raised with the Government of Iraq and the Coordination Framework, calling on them to take action to stop what he described as unlawful activities.

Turning to domestic politics, Barzani stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and dialogue among Kurdish political parties. He called for the swift activation of the Kurdistan Parliament and the formation of a broad national government in which all political parties share responsibility.

Regarding the proposal to establish a political council, Barzani said that all political parties should participate, while emphasizing that such a body should not replace the official institutions of the Kurdistan Region.
