PM Masrour Barzani: Unity Is Kurdistan’s Greatest Strength on Anniversary of the 1991 Kurdish Uprising
On the anniversary of the 1991 Kurdish Uprising, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his congratulations to the people of Kurdistan, praising the sacrifices made during the historic revolt that paved the way for the region’s autonomy.
In a message posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Barzani conveyed his warmest greetings to “all Kurdistanis, our heroic Peshmerga, and the proud families of the martyrs,” acknowledging their role in defending the Kurdistan Region and its political achievements.
Barzani emphasized that the spirit of the uprising continues to inspire the Kurdish people today, particularly at a time when unity remains essential for safeguarding the region’s progress.
“Today more than ever, unity is our greatest strength,” he wrote, stressing the importance of standing together to protect Kurdistan’s national achievements.
The 1991 Kurdish Uprising is widely regarded as a turning point in modern Kurdish history, when widespread revolts against the regime of Saddam Hussein led to the eventual establishment of the Kurdistan Region’s self-rule.
Every year, the anniversary is marked across the Kurdistan Region with ceremonies honoring the sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces and the thousands who lost their lives during the struggle for freedom.
On the anniversary of Kurdistan's 1991 Uprising, I extend my warmest congratulations to all Kurdistanis, our heroic Peshmerga and the proud families of the martyrs.
