US, Gulf Allies Condemn Iran’s Missile and Drone Attacks on Iraq and Wider Region

The United States and six Gulf and regional allies have issued a strong condemnation of what they described as Iran’s “indiscriminate and reckless” missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, including strikes that targeted Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

In a joint statement released on Sunday, the governments of the United States, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates accused the Iran of launching attacks against sovereign territories across the region.

According to the statement, the strikes affected Bahrain, Iraq — including the Kurdistan Region — Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The signatories said the attacks endangered civilians and caused damage to civilian infrastructure.

Describing the incidents as a “dangerous escalation,” the seven countries said the actions violated the sovereignty of multiple states and posed a serious threat to regional stability. They further stated that targeting civilians and countries not engaged in hostilities amounted to reckless and destabilizing behavior.

The joint statement reaffirmed what the signatories called their right to self-defense, emphasizing that they stood united in protecting their citizens, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The countries also commended what they described as effective air and missile defense cooperation, saying coordinated efforts had prevented far greater loss of life and destruction.
