President Nechirvan Barzani: Protecting Mother Languages Is Protecting Kurdistan’s Identity and Future
President Nechirvan Barzani marked International Mother Language Day by reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to protecting and promoting linguistic and cultural diversity.
In a message posted on X, the President described the Kurdistan Region as a cradle of diversity and coexistence, home to various national and religious communities, languages, and cultures.
Barzani emphasized the importance of supporting and developing mother languages for all communities across the Region — from the Kurdish language to the languages of other national groups, including Turkmen, Syriac, and Armenian.
He stressed that preserving mother languages is essential to safeguarding identity, rich historical heritage, and the future of Kurdistan, underscoring the Region’s long-standing commitment to pluralism and coexistence.
