Explosion in Iran’s Bandar Abbas Kills One, Injures 14
At least one person was killed and 14 others injured after an explosion struck a residential building in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday, Iranian state and semi-official media reported.
The blast hit an eight-storey apartment building on Moallem Boulevard, destroying two floors of the structure and damaging nearby vehicles and shops, according to state television. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and the injured were taken to local hospitals.
The semi-official Mehr news agency, citing the local fire department chief, reported that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. However, Iranian authorities initially said an investigation into the cause was still underway.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency quoted Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, the crisis management director for Hormozgan province, as saying earlier that officials were examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
