Coordinator of International Advocacy in the Kurdistan Regional Government: The Region Participates in the 92nd Session on the CEDAW Discussions
Dr. Dindar Zebari, Coordinator of International Recommendations in the Kurdistan Regional Government, announced that the Kurdistan Region delegation will participate within the Iraqi national delegation in the 92nd session of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), scheduled to be held from February 2 to 6, 2026, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Zebari added that the session will witness the presence of a distinguished group of experts and specialists, alongside representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations concerned with women’s issues, to discuss Iraq’s eighth periodic report. He noted that these discussions provide an important platform to review the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination and domestic violence, through laws and regulations issued by the government, and the role of the competent institutions in the Region in combating violence and building an equality-based society.
Zebari emphasized that, within the framework of the Human Rights Plan (2021–2025) and the implementation of international recommendations, the Kurdistan Regional Government has achieved tangible accomplishments and significant progress. Previous sessions have witnessed praise from several countries for the commitment to international principles and recommendations, particularly in the areas of promoting equality, suspending the death penalty, and hosting internally displaced persons and refugees.
