Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, focusing on regional developments and strengthening bilateral relations with key international partners.

The Prime Minister met with Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, where they discussed political developments in Iraq and ongoing efforts by political parties to form the new Iraqi federal cabinet. Minister Barrot conveyed the greetings of French President Emmanuel Macron and emphasized the importance of further strengthening the longstanding friendship and partnership between France and the Kurdistan Region. Prime Minister Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude and appreciation for the continued support of the French government and people.

The situation in Syria was a central topic of discussion, with both sides expressing deep concern over the ongoing clashes, which pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability and risk enabling a resurgence of ISIS. They stressed the importance of resolving issues through dialogue and negotiations, while guaranteeing the rights of the Kurdish people and all components of Syrian society.

Prime Minister Barzani also met with H.R.H. Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The meeting emphasized the importance of further strengthening the historic and friendly relations between the Kurdistan Region and Jordan. The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Jordan’s continued support and for His Majesty King Abdullah II. In turn, the Crown Prince conveyed the King’s greetings and reaffirmed Jordan’s readiness to continue supporting the Kurdistan Region.

The two sides discussed the situation in Iraq, efforts to form the new federal government, and developments in Syria, underscoring the importance of sustaining the ceasefire and addressing challenges through understanding, dialogue, and negotiations.

In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Barzani met with Khalifa Abdullah Al-Ajil, Kuwait’s Minister of Commerce and Industry. They highlighted the importance of further developing bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of investment and trade exchange, and explored opportunities to enhance economic cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait.
