KRG Prime Minister Hosts Turkish Football Delegation, Hails Sports as a Tool for Peace

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, met with a delegation from Amedspor, a prominent football club based in Türkiye, on Monday. The discussions centered on the state of athletics and the powerful social role of sports in fostering regional diplomacy and community harmony.

The delegation, led by Club President Nahit Eren and including members of its administrative board, briefed Prime Minister Barzani on the club’s operations, activities, and its stature as a leading sports institution in Türkiye.

During the meeting, the officials expressed appreciation for the KRG’s supportive policies towards the sports sector and athletes within the Kurdistan Region. They also commended the Prime Minister for the overall progress witnessed in the region across various fields.

In his response, Prime Minister Barzani elevated the discussion beyond administrative details, framing organized sports as a critical societal instrument. He emphasized the "important role" of athletes and sports movements in the broader cultural and political landscape.

"The sports movement bears a responsibility that extends beyond mere competition," Prime Minister Barzani stated, characterizing the sector as a "vital conduit for conveying messages of peace and harmony among different peoples."

Concluding the reception, the Prime Minister commended Amedspor for its efforts and wished the club continued success. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the sports movement and athletes, underscoring their role as ambassadors for their communities.
