Russia Claims Use of Advanced Hypersonic Missile in Overnight Strikes on Ukraine
Russia said it deployed one of its most advanced ballistic missiles during a wave of overnight strikes on Ukraine, as attacks across the country killed at least four people and damaged critical infrastructure.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, hypersonic missile systems were used alongside drones and other weapons in the strikes. The ministry did not provide detailed evidence to support the claim, but said the attacks targeted military and infrastructure-related sites.
In Kyiv, Ukrainian officials reported that at least four people were killed after Russian drones struck residential areas during the night. Emergency services said several buildings were damaged, and rescue teams continued to search affected sites amid debris.
Russian strikes also hit infrastructure in the western Lviv region, far from the front lines. Local authorities reported damage to energy and transport facilities, raising concerns about disruptions to civilian life and essential services. No immediate casualties were reported there.
Ukrainian air defense forces said they intercepted a number of incoming drones and missiles, but acknowledged that some strikes penetrated defenses. Officials again called for increased air defense support from Western allies, warning that Russia is intensifying its use of advanced weapons.
