President Barzani Receives Iranian Ambassador and Chinese Communist Party Delegation
President Masoud Barzani received on Monday, 15 December 2025, in Pirmam, His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadeq, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraq, as well as a delegation from the Chinese Communist Party.
In his meeting with the Iranian ambassador, which was also attended by Mr. Faramarz Asadi, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Erbil, discussions focused on the situation in the region, the political developments in Iraq, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and ties between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening and developing these relations across all fields on the basis of mutual interests.
Later, President Barzani met with a Chinese delegation comprising Mr. Jin Xin, Deputy Director of External Relations of the Chinese Communist Party; Mr. Cui Wei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Iraq; and Mr. Liu Jun, Chinese Consul in the Kurdistan Region. The delegation expressed its pleasure at the visit and conveyed congratulations to President Barzani and the Kurdistan Democratic Party on their victory in the recent Iraqi parliamentary elections, in which the party secured more than one million votes, becoming the leading party nationwide.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of the Kurdistan Region’s position and its historical relations with the Chinese Communist Party. The Chinese delegation reiterated China’s desire to strengthen and expand relations with the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the economic, commercial, and cultural fields, and reaffirmed its support for the Kurdistan Region.
President Barzani warmly welcomed the delegation, expressing his respect for the Chinese people and their civilization and history. He underscored the significance of relations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Chinese Communist Party, as well as between the Kurdistan Region and China, expressing hope for their continued expansion and strengthening.
The ratification of the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections, the process of forming the new federal government, and broader political developments in Iraq were also discussed during the meetings.
