On the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Women’s Union, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani issued a congratulatory message honoring the organization and all women of Kurdistan for their historic and ongoing contributions to society.

In his statement, President Barzani described the Kurdistan Women’s Union as “a great school of patriotism and development”, praising its decades-long role in both the national struggle and civil society. He emphasized that the Union, established on the principles of the late Malla Mustafa Barzani, has consistently been an active force in political, social, and developmental spheres.

Barzani highlighted the sacrifices made by Kurdish women during the years of revolution, noting that they served as “supreme examples of resilience and sacrifice.” He added that women continue to play a vital role in today’s era of reconstruction and progress, proving themselves to be “fundamental pillars of a healthy and progressive society.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to women’s rights, President Barzani stated:
“We reaffirm our full support for the struggle and activities of the Kurdistan Women’s Union in realizing their rights and strengthening the position of women in decision-making and administrative centers.”

He also honored the memory of women who lost their lives in the fight for freedom and equality in Kurdistan.

President Barzani concluded by wishing continued success and advancement for the Kurdistan Women’s Union as it marks over seven decades of service to the people of Kurdistan.
