President Barzani, Karbouli Hold Talks in Pirmam on Post-Election Political Landscape

President Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met on Wednesday with Jamal Karbouli, head of the National Movement for Development and Reform, widely known as the al-Hal Party, to discuss Iraq’s evolving political landscape as the country enters a new post-election phase.

The meeting, held in Pirmam, focused on the latest political developments in Baghdad and the challenges surrounding the formation of the next Iraqi parliament. Both leaders underscored the need for stronger coordination among political forces to ensure stability and avoid further fragmentation.

According to information from the meeting, Barzani and Karbouli emphasized that Iraq’s political process requires cooperation, dialogue, and constructive communication among all major blocs. They noted that political stability in the coming phase depends on consensus-building and the ability of parties to overcome disputes.

Iraq held its parliamentary elections last month, and negotiations are now underway to form alliances, select parliamentary leadership, and shape the next government. This period has triggered intensified discussions among Kurdish, Sunni, and Shiite leaders as they navigate shifting alliances, power-sharing debates, and increased public pressure for reform.

Barzani has frequently played a mediating role during key political moments in Iraq, hosting delegations from across the political spectrum in Pirmam. Karbouli and his al-Hal Party continue to hold influence within Sunni political circles and remain engaged in negotiations to help define the next political order.
