President Masoud Barzani reaffirmed the vital role of Kurdish communities abroad in promoting the Kurdish national cause during a meeting on Monday with Rahim Rashid, head of international relations for the Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation.

In the meeting held in Pirmam, the two sides discussed the political and social influence of the diaspora and its contribution to Kurdish national aspirations. Barzani emphasized that Kurdish communities worldwide serve as an essential voice for defending Kurdish rights and identity.

Barzani praised the Confederation’s activities, describing its mission as “a national and patriotic project for all Kurds,” and expressed his continued personal support for its work. He noted the need for sustained international engagement to advance what he called the “just cause” of the Kurdish people.

The discussion underscored the diaspora’s increasing involvement in lobbying international institutions, strengthening diplomatic outreach, and building global solidarity on humanitarian and political issues affecting Kurds. Communities across Europe and North America have been active in advocacy campaigns, cultural initiatives, and cooperation with civil society groups.

Kurdistan Region officials have long viewed diaspora engagement as a strategic advantage, recognizing that millions of Kurds abroad can help elevate Kurdish visibility on the world stage. Contributions from Kurdish professionals, students, and activists have been instrumental in communicating the region’s perspectives to global audiences.
