President Barzani Visits Zakho Book Fair, Hailing it as a Cultural Hub
In a major show of support for cultural and intellectual life in the Kurdistan Region, President Masoud Barzani paid a high-profile visit on Sunday to the Zakho Book Fair, an event that has turned the city into a bustling hub of literary activity.
The visit highlighted the administration’s ongoing commitment to promoting literacy, education, and the spread of knowledge across all provinces and independent administrations of the Kurdistan Region.
During his tour, President Barzani explored the exhibition’s numerous pavilions and stalls, gaining a close view of the event’s scale and diversity. According to organizers, the fair features more than 20,000 book titles spanning multiple languages, disciplines, and genres—an extensive collection aimed at students, researchers, and the wider public.
The fair has attracted strong interest from local residents and intellectuals alike, reinforcing Zakho’s growing reputation as a vibrant cultural center. Its international scope was also on display, with 50 specialized publishing and distribution houses from 10 countries participating. This diverse presence has enabled a rich exchange of ideas and provided readers with access to global literature and academic works.
Scheduled to run for six days, the fair remains open daily from 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM, offering easy access for citizens, students, and government employees.
