Senior leaders of the Kurdistan Region issued strong condemnations following the latest terrorist attack on the Kormor (Khor Mor) gas field, calling for decisive action from the Iraqi Federal Government and the international community to prevent further assaults on the Region’s vital energy infrastructure.

The attack, which struck the strategic gas facility late Tuesday night, was described by officials as a deliberate attempt to undermine the economic stability of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani denounced the assault “in the strongest terms,” urging the federal authorities to identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.

“Whoever is behind tonight’s attacks must not be allowed to repeat these crimes or be released with impunity, as has happened in the past,” he said. The Prime Minister also appealed to the United States and other international partners for support in providing advanced defense systems to safeguard Kurdistan’s energy infrastructure.

In a separate statement, the Barzani Headquarters called the attack an assault on the “economic infrastructure and the interests of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and all its citizens.” The statement criticized the repeated pattern of attacks followed only by verbal condemnation and warned that without tangible deterrent measures, such violations would continue.

“The time has come to take serious and practical steps… to put an end to them and to hold those responsible accountable,” it read.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani likewise condemned the incident, describing it as a direct threat to Iraq’s broader security and stability.

He stressed that it is the responsibility of the Iraqi Federal Government and security agencies to launch an immediate investigation, take effective measures to punish those behind the attack, and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Kormor/Khor Mor field is one of the Kurdistan Region’s most critical energy assets, supplying natural gas essential for power generation across the region. The repeated targeting of the facility has raised increasing concern over the safety of energy infrastructure and the potential impact on public services and economic growth.
