US Special Envoy to Iraq Denies Resignation Rumors, Reaffirms Role Amid Planned High-Level US Visit
Mark Savaya, the US Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq, has publicly rejected reports claiming his mandate has concluded or that he is stepping down from his position, asserting that his role and responsibilities remain unchanged.
Savaya directly addressed the speculation through a message on his personal Instagram account, labeling the rumors of his departure as "unfounded." He emphasized that he remains fully engaged in his duties and is currently conducting a detailed review of the Iraq portfolio.
In his statement, Savaya clarified that he will continue to carry out his responsibilities in the coming weeks, positioning his remarks as a direct rebuttal to claims that he was being recalled or reassigned.
The denial comes amidst signals from diplomatic sources that Washington is preparing to intensify its engagement with Iraq. According to these sources, a high-level US delegation featuring senior officials from the State Department is scheduled to visit Baghdad before the end of the month.
The delegation is expected to have a packed agenda, holding a series of meetings with top Iraqi officials. The talks are anticipated to focus on major and sensitive issues, including the country's political landscape, ongoing security challenges, and unresolved economic matters.
