Barzani Congratulates Kurdistan, Iraq on Successful Parliamentary Elections

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Masoud Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has extended his congratulations to the people of Kurdistan and Iraq following the successful completion of the country's parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Barzani congratulated “the beloved people of Kurdistan and all of Iraq” on the successful electoral process for the Council of Representatives. He also offered his congratulations to “the proud families of martyrs, heroic Peshmerga forces, and all social and political groups of Kurdistan.”

Barzani expressed his gratitude to the leadership, members, and supporters of the KDP, as well as to security institutions and all relevant bodies, for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful and organized election.

“I deeply thank all those who worked tirelessly and with great dedication to guarantee a calm and secure voting process,” Barzani said.

He added that he hopes the elections and their results “will help Iraq return to the right and proper path.”

The 2025 parliamentary elections, held on November 11, mark Iraq’s sixth national vote since the fall of the previous regime in 2003. According to the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), voter turnout exceeded 54 percent in the general voting.

Participation was significantly higher in the special voting, which is reserved for security forces and displaced persons, with a turnout of over 82 percent.

Preliminary results for the elections are expected to be announced later on Wednesday evening.
