Prime Minister Barzani Visits Dwin Dam Project in Erbil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A major new infrastructure project, the Dwin Dam, has been inaugurated in Erbil, marking a significant step forward for the region's water security, agriculture, and economic development.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who highlighted the dam's potential to hold a staggering 100 million cubic meters of water upon completion. The project is poised to become a cornerstone for sustainable growth in the area.

In a statement, PM Barzani outlined the multifaceted benefits of the new dam, stating it "will contribute to the area’s climate, support agriculture and tourism, and create new jobs for our people."

The Dwin Dam is expected to have a transformative impact on the region by:

Enhancing Water Security: The massive reservoir will provide a reliable water source for drinking and irrigation, mitigating the effects of seasonal droughts and climate variability.

Boosting Agricultural Output: With a guaranteed water supply, local farmers will be able to increase cultivation, supporting food security and the local agrarian economy.

Promoting Tourism and Recreation: The reservoir created by the dam is anticipated to become a new recreational hub, attracting visitors for picnics, water sports, and nature tourism, thereby stimulating the local service industry.

Stimulating Job Creation: The construction phase has already provided employment, and the ongoing maintenance and new economic opportunities in agriculture and tourism are expected to create lasting jobs for the local population.

The Dwin Dam project is part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s broader strategy to enhance water resource management and promote sustainable development across the region.
