In a major step toward strengthening public infrastructure and expanding the strategic road network in the Kurdistan Region, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today inaugurated the Gomaspan–Smaqoli Dual Road Project during an official ceremony attended by senior government officials and representatives of the executing company.

The new strategic road extends 22 kilometers and was completed within one year, at a total cost of 210 billion dinars.

In his address, Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) continues to advance its development and construction agenda despite multiple challenges. He emphasized that determination, perseverance, and national dedication have enabled the Region to sustain progress in service and infrastructure projects.

The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the executing company, Heman Group, commending its professionalism and efficiency in completing the vital project to high standards and within a record timeframe. He described the achievement as another fulfilled promise to the citizens of Kurdistan and clear evidence of the capabilities of local expertise in implementing major infrastructure initiatives.

Barzani explained that the road forms part of a larger project aimed at improving connectivity between Erbil and Sulaymaniyah governorates, as well as the independent Raparin Administration, passing through the Gomaspan Dam. The project is expected to facilitate transportation and trade, while also helping to reduce traffic congestion and road accidents.

Highlighting a noticeable decline in traffic accidents in parallel with the Region’s ongoing road development efforts, the Prime Minister urged citizens to strictly comply with traffic safety regulations issued by the Ministry of Interior to safeguard lives and property.

He also reiterated his call for collective responsibility in protecting the environment and maintaining the cleanliness of Kurdistan, describing this as a national duty. Barzani stressed the importance of enforcing strict legal measures against those who pollute the environment.

Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Barzani noted that the Gomaspan–Smaqoli project is part of a comprehensive master plan to transform the area into a prominent tourist destination. He added that several other projects are currently underway to further develop the tourism sector across the Kurdistan Region, boosting economic growth and enhancing prosperity for its people.
