President Masoud Barzani Welcomes Kurdish Diaspora Youth Delegation in Erbil

Erbil, Kurdistan Region — Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), on Sunday welcomed a delegation of 110 young Kurds from different parts of Kurdistan and the diaspora, including 12 participants from various European countries, during a gathering held in Erbil.

At the start of the meeting, Ismail Kamil, President of the Confederation of Kurdistan Diaspora, expressed his gratitude to Barzani for his continuous support in uniting Kurds abroad under a shared national framework aimed at preserving Kurdish identity and solidarity.

Yad Amin, President of the Federation of Kurdistan Diaspora Youth, also thanked Barzani for his encouragement and gave an overview of the federation’s establishment, the purpose of the youth delegation’s visit, and its short- and long-term goals. He explained that the program aims to strengthen connections between Kurdish youth abroad and their homeland through cultural, educational, and advocacy initiatives.

In his remarks, Barzani emphasized the importance of uniting Kurds in the diaspora under a common national vision to safeguard their culture, language, and identity while contributing to the Kurdish cause. He urged the young participants to engage actively in the societies where they live, achieve academic and professional success, and use their platforms in European institutions and organizations to promote Kurdish rights and visibility.

Barzani described diaspora youth as “ambassadors” for their homeland, encouraging them to build strong diplomatic, cultural, and political ties between their host countries and Kurdistan. He stressed that education and self-development should remain top priorities for the younger generation to enable them to represent Kurdistan’s interests on the international stage.

During the meeting, Barzani also addressed broader developments in other parts of Kurdistan, reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s support for peaceful and democratic solutions to the Kurdish question wherever Kurds reside.

In recent years, the Kurdistan Region’s leadership has intensified its outreach to the Kurdish diaspora, recognizing it as a vital asset for cultural preservation, international advocacy, and investment. Thousands of Kurds live in European countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Sweden, with additional large communities in North America. These communities play an increasingly active role in maintaining ties with their homeland and promoting Kurdish identity abroad through cultural and educational programs.
