US Envoy Declares Turkish Airlines' Boeing Deal

In a significant announcement, the United States Ambassador to Türkiye, Tom Barrack, stated on Thursday that Turkish Airlines' purchase of new Boeing aircraft has been finalized, signaling a major commercial agreement following high-level talks between the two NATO allies.

"The deal is done," Ambassador Barrack said definitively when questioned by reporters outside the White House about the status of the transaction. The envoy provided no further details on the scale or value of the purchase. His remarks came immediately after a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The ambassador's statement appears to pre-empt an official announcement from the airline itself. Just last week, Turkish Airlines had indicated that discussions were still ongoing. Yahya Ustun, the airline's Senior Vice President of Communications, stated, “This is an issue we have been discussing with Boeing for a long time, but no definitive decision has been reached yet.”

If confirmed, this deal would mark the latest in a series of major Turkish aviation contracts with the American aerospace giant. In a move to bolster its cargo operations, Turkish Airlines finalized an order with Boeing last year for four 777 freighters. Additionally, another Turkish carrier, Pegasus Airlines, placed a massive order for 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2019.

The potential purchase by Turkish Airlines, the nation's flag carrier, is seen as a strategic investment to modernize and expand its extensive international fleet. A firm order would provide a significant boost to Boeing, which has faced commercial challenges following the grounding of its 737 MAX fleet.
