Kurdistan Region Resumes Oil Exports After Historic Agreement
The Kurdistan Region, in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Oil and Iraq’s State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), has reached a landmark agreement with international oil companies, paving the way for the resumption of oil exports from the Region’s fields to global markets.
The announcement was made yesterday by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who described the deal as the outcome of “tireless efforts and months of negotiation by teams on all sides.”
Barzani commended the people of Kurdistan for their resilience during the suspension of exports, stressing that the breakthrough marks a major step toward securing the Region’s “legitimate financial rights.”
He emphasized that with renewed oil exports, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) remains determined to fully implement all constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region.
The agreement ends months of uncertainty following disruptions in exports, and is expected to bolster both Iraq’s national energy sector and the Kurdistan Region’s economy.
Today’s agreement between the Kurdistan Region and oil companies with the Federal Ministry of Oil and SOMO is the result of tireless efforts and months of negotiation by teams on all sides. With this step, oil from Kurdistan Region’s fields will again enter the global market.
