KRG Appoints 775 New Doctors to Bolster Healthcare System

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – In a significant move to tackle rising healthcare demands, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has officially appointed 775 new medical graduates to positions within the regional health sector.

The appointment order was formally signed by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday. The decision integrates doctors who graduated in the 2023-2024 academic year into the Ministry of Health, providing them with full titles, salaries, and allowances. These costs will be covered by the KRG's internal revenues.

The new physicians were recruited from medical colleges across the region, including institutions in Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, Duhok, Zakho, Koya, Garmian, and Kurdistan University.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s office highlighted the critical nature of this step. “This is a crucial step in strengthening our healthcare infrastructure and ensuring our citizens have access to quality medical care,” it read.

The statement further emphasized the importance of adding these skilled professionals, particularly rotating resident physicians, to directly address the increasing needs of patients.

This large-scale hiring comes at a time when hospitals and clinics throughout the Kurdistan Region are experiencing sustained pressure driven by population growth and a higher demand for medical services. Government officials have expressed confidence that the influx of new doctors will help ease the strain on health institutions and lead to tangible improvements in service delivery.
