ERBIL, Kurdistan Region –  The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, held a meeting on Sunday with the newly appointed U.S. Consul General to Erbil, Wendy Green, marking the beginning of her diplomatic mission in the region.

The meeting, characterized by a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect, focused on strengthening bilateral ties, economic partnerships, and addressing key regional issues.

Prime Minister Barzani opened the discussions by formally congratulating Consul General Green on her new post. He assured her of his government's "full readiness to provide all support for the success of her diplomatic mission." The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to commend the unwavering support offered by the United States to the Kurdistan Region across various sectors.

In response, Consul General Green expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating her honor to serve in the region. She praised the strong "bonds of friendship" between the two sides and emphasized her country's commitment to "strengthening and developing relations in a way that serves mutual interests."

In a significant announcement regarding economic collaboration, Consul General Green revealed that a U.S. trade delegation is scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region in the near future, signaling a potential boost for economic and investment ties.

The U.S. diplomat also lauded the KRG's ongoing reform agenda, singling out two major infrastructure projects for particular praise: the 'Ronaki' initiative, which aims to provide 24-hour national electricity, and the 'My Bank Account' project, a cornerstone of the government's policy to digitize the regional financial sector.

A substantial part of the dialogue was dedicated to critical issues between Erbil and Baghdad. Both parties stressed the necessity of resolving outstanding disputes to ensure the constitutional financial rights of the Kurdistan Region's citizens are secured. The importance of resuming the region's oil exports, a vital source of revenue currently halted, was also underlined as a key priority.
