Iraqi Integrity Commission, Journalists Syndicate Collaborate to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Reporting

In a concerted effort to combat graft and enhance governmental transparency, the Iraqi Commission of Integrity held a joint workshop with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate in Kirkuk on Thursday. The session focused on empowering media professionals to play a more robust role in exposing corruption.

The workshop brought together officials and journalists to address the significant challenges reporters face in accessing official information. A central point of discussion was the urgent need to enforce laws that guarantee and safeguard press freedom in Iraq.

Salman al-Naqqash, the Media Director of the Commission of Integrity, told Shafaq News that the initiative aimed to provide journalists with practical tools to effectively track corruption cases.

“The workshop is designed to raise media awareness on how to monitor corruption and improve journalists' access to official information,” al-Naqqash stated.

Marwan Ibrahim, the head of the Kirkuk branch of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, who also attended, emphasized the importance of the collaboration. He described the event as a critical step toward reinforcing the journalist's role in public oversight.

“The syndicate remains committed to equipping reporters with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver accurate coverage in the public interest,” Ibrahim added.
