A high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) visited Halabja Governorate on Wednesday to offer condolences and coordinate relief efforts following a major fire that resulted in significant damage and the tragic loss of two lives.

Peshwa Huramani, the official spokesperson for the KRG, arrived as a direct representative of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. His visit aimed to convey the government's solidarity with the affected communities.

In a joint press conference with Halabja Governor Ms. Nukhsha Nasih, Huramani expressed the Prime Minister's profound sympathy. "We came to Halabja today to convey the condolences and sympathy of the Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, to the families of the fire martyrs," he stated.

Huramani emphasized that the government has been engaged since the incident began, saying, "The Kurdistan Regional Government and the Prime Minister have been following the matter since the first moment the incident occurred." He confirmed that the Minister of Interior is in constant contact with the governorate to ensure all necessary equipment is provided to control the blaze.

The spokesperson affirmed the KRG's full support, not only for the victims but also for the emergency responders. He praised the efforts of "the governor, the volunteers, regional government teams, defense and emergency teams, and everyone who contributed to extinguishing the fire and made strenuous efforts to prevent its spread."

Governor Nukhsha Nasih provided an initial assessment of the damage, indicating the fire's severe impact. "According to initial estimates, the fire affected more than 5,000 dunams of land [approximately 1,250 acres]," she reported.

She also outlined the next steps for recovery, announcing that a committee would be formed to address compensation. The committee will formally approach the KRG Council of Ministers to seek compensation for all those affected by the disaster.

The fire broke out on the night of August 17-18 in the villages of Chenar and Mordin, within the Halabja Governorate. The incident tragically claimed the lives of a 28-year-old man and a civil defense policeman and left two others injured.

In the immediate aftermath, Prime Minister Barzani, through the Ministry of Interior, declared the readiness of all regional government institutions to provide comprehensive support to Halabja. Today's visit underscores the administration's commitment to standing with the governorate through the recovery process.
