Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Discusses Security and Cooperation with UK Military Delegation
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met on Wednesday with a senior British military delegation led by Major General Edward Ahlgren, the UK’s Senior Defense Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa. The meeting, attended by British Consul General Andrew Beasley, focused on regional security, military cooperation, and ongoing reforms in the Peshmerga Ministry, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
The discussions centered on the latest security developments in Iraq and the wider Middle East, with both sides stressing the need to enhance coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Barzani expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued support, particularly within the Global Coalition against terrorism.
Key issues addressed included upholding the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights, safeguarding its financial entitlements, and halting ongoing terrorist and drone attacks targeting the Region. The meeting also touched upon broader regional developments, including the situation in Syria.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military cooperation and supporting the reform process within the Peshmerga Ministry to improve its operational capabilities.
