Syrian President Calls for Nationwide Ceasefire Amid Sectarian Violence

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has declared a nationwide ceasefire and deployed security forces to quell escalating violence between Druze and Bedouin factions in the southern province of Sweida. The government's decision to send troops back into the region comes after weeks of clashes that have raised fears of further destabilization in the war-torn country.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, at least 32 people have reportedly been killed near aid distribution sites, with witnesses linking the deaths to chaos surrounding humanitarian centers operated by the US and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The incidents have sparked renewed outrage over the dire conditions in the besieged enclave, where desperate civilians continue to face severe food shortages and violence.

President al-Sharaa’s ceasefire announcement follows intense fighting between Druze and Bedouin groups, which has threatened to reignite broader conflict in Syria. Security forces have been mobilized to Sweida, a Druze-majority region that had previously enjoyed relative autonomy. Analysts warn that the unrest could undermine fragile stability in government-held areas.

In Gaza, tragedy struck near food distribution points as crowds scrambled for limited supplies. Local sources claim that Israeli military operations and overcrowding at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid centers contributed to the deaths. The foundation, supported by the US and Israel, has been a key provider of aid, but Palestinian officials accuse Israeli forces of obstructing deliveries, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
