Duhok's Sheikhān-Lalish Road Project Nears Completion, Set to Boost Tourism and Traffic Flow
Erbil, Kurdistan Region - The two-lane Sheikhān-Lalish road project in Duhok Governorate is approaching completion, with 85% of construction already finished.
The 8.2-kilometer road, funded by the governorate’s development budget at a cost exceeding 26 billion Iraqi dinars, is expected to open to the public by October 2024.
The new road, spanning 25.5 meters in width and featuring a 3-meter-wide central median, aims to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Sheikhān and the revered religious and tourist site of Lalish.
Officials highlight that the project will not only enhance transportation efficiency but also stimulate regional economic growth and tourism.
As one of the key infrastructure developments in the area, the Sheikhān-Lalish road is anticipated to facilitate smoother access for pilgrims and visitors to Lalish, a significant Yazidi cultural and spiritual center.
Local authorities emphasize the project’s role in supporting Duhok’s broader development goals.
