Escalating Conflict: Israel and Iran Exchange Strikes as Tensions Soar

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran escalated dramatically today as both nations exchanged missile strikes, targeting critical infrastructure and causing significant casualties.

Israeli officials confirmed that Soroka Hospital in Beersheba was hit by an Iranian missile, sparking international condemnation. The attack caused extensive damage, with casualties still being assessed. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the strike a "war crime" and vowed a "devastating response."

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that Israel launched a retaliatory strike on the heavy-water research reactor in Khondab. While Iranian authorities have not disclosed casualties, satellite imagery suggests significant structural damage. The facility has long been a point of contention in nuclear negotiations.

Amid the escalating violence, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain are set to meet with their Iranian counterpart on Friday in an emergency de-escalation effort. The European Union has called for an immediate ceasefire, warning of a wider regional war.

US President Donald Trump has yet to commit to direct military action but stated that "all options are on the table." In response, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister warned that any US attack would be met with "overwhelming force," raising fears of a broader confrontation.

According to a human rights monitoring group, at least 639 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across Iran, though official figures remain disputed. The UN has expressed alarm over civilian casualties and called for urgent humanitarian access.

The UN Security Council is expected to convene an emergency session, while Russia and China have urged restraint. Oil prices surged amid fears of supply disruptions, further destabilizing global markets.
